are the names and general descriptions for the different practice groups we have within our
program!
Also
listed is the scientific name for each SHARK along with the size
(of the shark; not the group)!
Continuing Education "CE" Shark Groups:

Angel Sharks
Squatina dumerlli 4 feet 100 lbs.
This group is for swimmers who've taken one session of our regular (daily) lesson program.and desire to further develop their swimming. Swimmers in this group continue to develop their water safety skills which includes "Humpty Dumpty", "Superman Kick", and "Roll Overs". Then we develop Freestyle with side breathing and Backstroke plus introduce Butterfly. They are 30 minnute lessons that practice 2 times per week, M/W or T/Th.
Sand Sharks
Caracharhinus milberti 6 feet 100 lbs. The Sand Sharks are for swimmers who can swim 50 feet of Freestyle with side breathing and 50 feet of Backstroke. This group continues to develop the Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly. Then inroduces Breaststroke plus Racing Starts and Finishes and they compete in our SHARK RACES! They practice for 45 minutes, 2 times per week on M/W or T/Th.
Bull Sharks
Carcharhinus leucas 10 feet 200 lbs. Swimmers in the Bull Sharks can complete 25 yards (75 feet) of Freestyle with side breathing and 25 yards of Backstroke. They continue to develop all 4 (four) of the competitive strokes, racing skills, plus introduce endurance training and compete in SHARK RACES! The Bull Sharks practice twice a week for 45 minutes on M/W or T/Th.

Blue Sharks
Prionace glauca 13 feet 300 lbs.
Requires 25 yards of Freestyle with side breathing and Backstroke plus basic knowledge of Butterfly and Breastroke. Practices are 1 hour in length; 3 times per week. Monday, Wednesday and Friday OR Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 4:00, 5:00, & 6:00 pm (practice times vary on a seasonal basis).
Dusky Sharks
Carcharhinus obscurus 14 feet 500 lbs.
Requires being legal in all 4 competitive strokes. Practices are 1 to 1.75 hours in length; 3 times per week. Monday, Wednesday and Friday OR Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 4:00 & 5:00 pm (practices times vary seasonally).
Hammerhead Sharks
Sphyrna mokarran 15 feet 800 lbs.
For Middle and High School Swimmers who desire to become improved competitive swimmers. Requires knowledge of all 4 competitive strokes. Practices are 1.25 to 1.75 hours in length; 3 to 5 times per week. Mondays through Fridays at 3:00 pm or 4:30 on T/Th/F (practice times vary on a seasonal basis).
Mako Sharks
Isurus oxyrinchus 12 feet 1,000 lbs.
For advanced swimmers, age 9 and older who desire to become accomplished competitive swimmers. Requires advanced knowledge in all 4 competitive strokes plus selection by the coach. Practices are 1.5 to 2 hours in length; 3 to 6 times per week depending on age. Practices are Mondays - Fridays at 4:30 pm (plus Sat mornings and practice times adjust on seasonally).
Great White Sharks
Carchaodon carcharias 36 feet 3,000 lbs.
For dedicated competitive swimmers who have the desire & commitment to strive for excellence. Requires coach approval. Practices are 2 to 3 hours in length; 6 to 9 times per week, Mondays - Fridays (plus early mornings on the weekdays and Saturday practices). Practices times vary and adjust on a seasonal basis.
Basking & Whale Sharks
Cetorhinus maximus & Rhincodon typus 45 feet 10,000 lbs.
(Masters Group)
For adult swimmers who desire to improve their techinque and swim for fun and fitness. Requires basic swim skills; Practices are 1 to 1.5 hours in length on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:00 or 8:30 am; & Saturdays at 8:00 am plus Mondays - Thursdays 6:15 - 7:15 pm!.
